There are numerous accounts of serial killers who somehow sympathise with their victims upon learning something about them. Monte Rissell, who killed five women, upon learning that one of his victims had a father dying from cancer, let her go free because his own father had died from cancer. Bobby Joe Long, who killed at least ten women, felt sorry for a young woman he had kidnapper when she confided that she had been abused as a child, and let her go free. Christopher Wilder set one of his kidnapped victims home on an airplane.
